my approach
Illustration and graphics work is one of the places where my creative mind gets to thrive, and where I love getting to work in partnership with another person, to help bring their ideas to the world. Illustration and graphics are all about visual communication — how do we best and most clearly communicate what is important about a subject, in a way that is easy for someone else to grasp and understand? This translation process — from an idea or concept into an image — is endlessly engaging to me, no matter the subject.
My process is to first understand what is important to you: If you are looking to design a logo for a business, a class, or some other offering, what subject and tone best captures the essence of what you are offering? If you are looking for an illustration or infographic, what information is most vital to communicate and is there a visual or organizational way of looking at that information that easily conveys it? I’ll ask you plenty of questions at first to really understand the subject at hand, and to make sure I’m getting it. From there, I begin to translate the idea into an image, and then we’ll refine it.
I’m always interested to talk over an idea that you have for a logo or illustration. Please contact me to get in touch: 443. 418. 6562 or bvveblen at gmail

With marketing materials, it’s important to understand who your audience is, what your objective is (are you thanking them, trying to share information about upcoming classes or offerings, trying to tell them about a new product or a sale) as well as what the medium of communication is (print, vs. online, website or social media, a class you’ll run once or you’ll be running weekly). All of these require different communication strategies in order to engage the people you’re trying to reach. My goal is to help you get your message across in the medium that makes the most sense, in a way that is both effective and compelling, that really connects with people. As with everything I design, I aim so that the visuals also communicate some of the qualities you are trying to convey about what you are offering, so that people have a feel for you before they even meet you.

website consultation:
Would you appreciate some feedback on a website that you’re building?
I have done website work for over fifteen years, and while I increasingly focus on illustration work, I do consult with people about their websites regarding design and organization. I am familiar with multiple web hosting platforms (Squarespace, WordPress, Wix, Weebly), and can find my way around most other platforms quite easily.
Occasionally, I will take on initial setup for smaller sites if a project is a good fit, where I work to get the site up and running, and then you maintain it on your own. Down the road you can consult with me if you ever need help with something.
Please reach out to me if you are interested in assistance of this sort. My consultation rate is $45/hour.
